AI in Focus: Domino’s
When you deliver over 3 billion pizzas a year, things can get messy. That’s why Domino’s (DPZ) is actively adopting Artificial Intelligence to improve every facet of their business.
The company is leveraging AI for competitive advantage in a number of ways, including the ability to predict when your pizza is ready. Using algorithms, they improved their prediction accuracy from 75 percent to 95 percent. Because, you know, “Where the fuck’s my pizza!?”
Over 60 percent of sales come through digital channels like Facebook, Twitter, and Amazon Echo. You can even order a pizza over SMS by texting the pizza emoji.
Points for Pie is a high profile AI project that allows customers to snap a picture of the pizza they’re eating and earn loyalty points towards free pizza.
A computer vision system called Pizza Checker uses machine learning to inspect each pizza for quality. The project is now installed in over 2,000 restaurants. Natural Language Processing is at the heart of “virtual assistants” who can communicate with customers by voice when they call to place an order.
