Teradyne is an AI-enabler discovered in the ARK Innovation ETF. The company, founded in 1960 by two Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) classmates, has a rich history.
They are a leading global supplier of automation equipment for test and industrial applications.
Primary lines of business are semiconductor test systems, storage and system level test systems, wireless test, and industrial automation products.
The Industrial Automation businesses are exciting and of interest to us artificially intelligent investors.
This part of the company is growing through acquisitions that include; Mobile Industrial Robots A/S (MiR), a leading manufacturer of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in 2018, and AutoGuide, LLC, a manufacturer of high payload AMRs.
The Industrial Automation business was negatively impacted by the global industrial downturn, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Revenue in the test business, however, exceeded the company’s plans because of early 5G test investments.
For 2021, the company is expecting continued momentum in the test businesses, and a return to growth for Industrial Automation.
