Change is Uncomfortable

1 min readJan 7, 2020

Long time readers know I’m a sucker for all things personal development. And this year will be no exception.

I recently picked up the book, Your Own Worst Enemy, by Dr. Ken Christian. The book highlights everyday habits that can seem harmless, but over time have high performing individuals tripping up over themselves.

We have a lot of habits we don’t even notice them. For instance, if you wear a watch, do you ever think about it being on your wrist? No, you just glance at it and know the time.

Somewhere near the beginning of the book, Dr. Christian recommends people who wear watches to switch it to their opposite wrist. Try it.

I did. I normally wear my watch on my left wrist. I moved it to my right. It feels really weird and unnatural. I’ve had it on my right wrist for four days now and it still feels awkward.

And that’s the point of the exercise. Real change is uncomfortable.
