Rage Against the Machine: Fury Unleashed
Cigars, scotch, and freedom. What's not to love? Like you, I was drawn to Fury's account. A moth to flame. His content exudes rugged individualism, laissez-faire, and a touch of Bruce Lee philosophy.
Back in 2018, Fury realized being tied to a desk and not controlling his own schedule wasn't the life he wanted to live. Fury says, "This planted the seed for what was to come. I have to reaffirm, from time to time, I decide what I do WHEN I want, with whom, and WHEREVER I want."
His driving force is the pursuit of his own path. Society is the Matrix, and people need to unplug from the toxic noise.
"Forge your own path. Sink or swim, win or lose." says Fury.
Fury began dicking around on Twitter, sampling from what was on offer. "But, I'm me.” he told himself. He decided to leverage that. First question; what makes “it” stand out from the crowd?
"Be yourself, everyone else is already taken” - Oscar Wilde
"There’s no one like you. Or me. That’s the key. Leverage that.” says Fury.
With freedom comes great responsibility. Fury's days are either extremely rigid, or very loose, depending on what he needs to do.
Extremely rigid means time boxed down to the half hour. With eight working hours, Fury points out, you can get about three deep flow sessions in a day. Do three things, or ONE big ass thing during that time.
How does Fury generate new ideas?
1. Journal every morning (your head becomes clear, it increases the quality of your thoughts, which become the ideas.)
2. Meditate every morning (same reason as journaling.)
3. Read a sick amount of the best blogs/newsletters on the web
4. Read books — (Fury has read 406+ books)
5. Listen to Podcasts
6. Listen to Audiobooks
When it comes to staying motivated, Fury says the key is understanding the brain. "Motivation" is a quick burst of chemicals, like dopamine, firing up in your brain. It's fleeting. To keep motivated, you need to internalize why you're doing something in the first place. Take in the big picture, have a longer vision, and look at the coming decades like a chessboard. Don't overthink. Keep adjusting as you move forward.
Anyone active on Twitter can usually point to a few books that have influenced them.
"61 Hours by Lee Child." Fury says without hesitation when asked.
Not the obvious book, and not inspiring in the obvious sense, either. Fury says the style of writing in the Jack Reacher books have influenced his way of storytelling.
Greatest achievement? Fury's living it right now. He's got a good audience, and his name is known. But there's still lots in the works; and lots of things he can’t disclose yet. (Stay tuned!)
