Years ago, I picked up a short book by Derek Sivers, a guy who cuts through the BS like few others. His ideas stuck with me. They’re life principles that make you stop, think, and most importantly, act differently. Here are a few of his best, straight from his book “Hell Yeah! Or No”:

If It’s Not a “Hell Yeah,” Say No

This one’s so simple it’s genius: if it’s not a hell yeah, it’s a no. We’re drowning in mediocrity because we say yes to everything. We attend meetings, agree to projects, and accept offers that are lukewarm at best. We say yes to things we don’t care about, and then wonder why we’re tired, uninspired, and feel like we’re stuck.

The solution? Only say yes to things that set you on fire. If you’re not leaping out of your chair to do something, just say no. You’ll clear up mental bandwidth to go all-in on the few things that really matter.

Saying yes to everything is a rookie move. Start saying no more often, and watch your life unclutter in real-time.

What If You Didn’t Need Money or Attention?

Sivers drops a bomb: what would you do if you had all the money and attention you’d ever need? No more hustling for likes, follows, or chasing dollar signs. It’s not a hypothetical — what would you actually do if you weren’t clutching for validation or cash?
