Lithium-ion battery systems reliability for space applications can have severe consequences. Xerotech, a manufacturer of advanced lithium-ion batteries, is working with the European Space Agency to qualify their proprietary PPR technology for space applications.

PPR, known as passive propagation resistant design, is a critical safety requirement for space missions; to include manned spaceflight. The technology can be applied to current and future space battery designs, potentially enabling previously impossible mission profiles and applications.
