Did you know an advant garde painting lost for nine decades was discovered being used as a prop in the movie ‘Stuart Little’?

The painting, ‘Sleeping Lady with Black Vase’ by Hungarian artist Robert Bereny was noticed by art historian Gergely Barki while watching the film with his daughter in 2009.

Turns out a set designer had picked up the painting at an antique shop in Pasadena, California for $500 bucks.

When Barki made contact, the painting was hanging on a wall in the set designer’s home.

The painting was repatriated to Hungary and eventually auctioned off for $285,700 in 2014.

Due to the publicity, the painting is now considered the most famous Hungarian painting in the world.
