Barry Seal was no ordinary pilot. He was a maverick of the skies. His tale was straight out of Hollywood blockbusters — and in fact, many documentaries and movies have been made about his life. Barry, a man known to sport aviator sunglasses while chomping a cigar between a grin as wide as the Mississippi river, could fly anything with wings.

But Barry had a little secret. Beneath the charm and laissez-faire attitude was a man who’d gone rogue. After an auspicious start at TWA as the youngest airline pilot ever, Barry’s adventure took an unexpected twist.

During those high-flying days at TWA, Barry dabbled in procuring Cuban cigars for consumption in the US. One day a mystery man approached Barry with an offer he couldn’t refuse. He became the chief pilot for the Medellin Cartel, smuggling precious cargo from Colombia to the US.

Barry swooped low over the trees to evade radar; like a modern-day Han Solo with an uncanny ability to stay one step ahead of the law. It was a game of high-stakes poker, and Barry was all in.

But it couldn’t last forever. The CIA and the DEA eventually caught wind of Barry’s high-flying escapades. They were hot on his tail. Luckily Barry had a trick or two up his sleeve. He turned informant. He didn’t stay out of trouble for long though. He continued to dabble in the drug trade while engaging in high-stakes espionage.
